Legacy

Top Gear Festival Community Social Investment

Top Gear Festival South Africa embarked on a journey with the City of Durban, Province of KwaZulu-Natal (Department of Transport) and Imperial iPledge to invest in the community and leave a legacy that will not only change the lives of underprivileged youth, but to impart with life changing skills that will encourage progress, hope in a better future and dreams worth attaining The core message being that anything and everything is achievable.

MASTER CLASSES:

Top Gear Festival South Africa joined forces with The Midas Group, the KZN Department of Transport and Imperial to empower the youth of South Africa by creating Master Classes.

The Master Classes in Motor Mechanics and Technology were offered to Grade 11 and 12. Over 1000 learners from schools in and around the City of Durban were identified to participate in the Master Classes with modules covering motoring lubrication system, wheel & tyres, how engines work and most importantly road safety.

The learners also attended The Top Gear Festival during rehearsal day to view the theory of master Classes in action at South Africa’s most explosive motoring event.

Top Gear Festival South Africa further went on to engage with the youth of South Africa from a grassroot level. With the help of three local primary schools from KwaMashu, Umlazi and Chesterville Townships, we created an art competition for primary schools to enter. The Grade 6 and 7 learners were set the task of designing a ‘proudly team SA’ car. With a tight deadline of just 8 working days.

The winning design was brought to life by a group of professional spray painters who painted the Mazda MX 5, a car that took part in the Top Gear Festival Street Circuit show.

DRIVING LICENCE BURSARIES:

Further to realising that not only is education the key, skills transferring was also an integral part of developing under privileged youth, Top Gear festival South Africa in conjunction with various local business created The Driving Licence Bursaries.

The object of this was to target unemployed youth and assist them with acquiring their driver’s licences. The drivers licence bursaries were offered to the unemployed youth in KwaXimba, KwaNgcolosi  and Umbumbulu.  These bursaries assisted in creating jobs for local driving schools who aided in coaching the scholars with passing their tests. The chosen learners kick started their bursary at the Top Gear Festival.  They were driven by legendary South African Ferrari F1 champion Jody Scheckter around the Top Gear Street Circuit.

PROMOTIONAL CAMPAIGN:

The Top Gear Festival team took to the streets to celebrate and promote The Top Gear Festival coming to Durban with the Department of Transport (KZN), Imperial iPledge and Durban Tourism.

The Street campaign took place in and around the Umlazi and KwaMashu townships and the aim was to promote road safety awareness.
